Check-ins capture more than numbers. Notes add context at the team or key-result level. Actions (when enabled for your organisation) record follow-up tasks linked to the check-in or a specific key result.
Note: Actions require the Actions feature to be enabled for your organisation.
Notes
General notes (Overview and Complete steps)
On the Overview or Complete step, use the Notes tab and type in the general notes field (placeholder: add general notes for this check-in...).
General notes are not tied to a single key result. Use them for meeting summaries, team mood, or topics that span multiple OKRs.
Key result notes
On each key result step, open the Notes tab and add text specific to that KR (placeholder: add a note for this key result...).
Empty notes are removed automatically when you navigate away from the field.
Previous notes
The Previous notes section shows notes from the last check-in for the same key result (or No notes if none exist). This helps you compare what changed since the last meeting.
Actions during a check-in
When Actions is enabled, each key result step and the Overview include an Add actions tab alongside Notes and Update Progress.
Adding an action

- Open Add actions
- Enter a title (What needs to get done?)
- Optionally set Owner, Deadline, Description, and Status (Planned, In progress, or Done)
- Click Add action
If the check-in has not been saved to the server yet, OKRnest saves the check-in first automatically so the action can be linked. If that save fails, you'll see a message to save the check-in before adding actions.
Press Enter in the title field to submit quickly.
Linked actions list
Linked actions shows actions already tied to this key result (or to the team without a KR on the Overview). You can:
- Mark items complete or change status from the list
- Load more with Show done actions when completed items are hidden
- Delete an action (confirmation: Delete action?)
On the Overview, linked actions use team-wide scope (actions not tied to a specific KR). On a KR step, the list is filtered to that key result.
Other panels on a key result step

- Status history: Progress chart and past updates for the KR (No progress data yet if empty)
- OKR Supported by: Objectives or key results that align with this KR (when alignment is enabled)
Where actions live after the check-in
Actions created during a check-in appear on:
- The team's Actions board (if your plan includes Actions)
- My actions in the sidebar for items you own
They remain linked to the key result or team scope you chose during the check-in.
Tips
- Separate signal from noise: Use KR notes for blockers and wins; use general notes for decisions that affect the whole team
- Create actions for commitments: If someone says "I'll fix the API by Friday," add an action with an owner and deadline while the group is still in the meeting
- Skim previous notes: Quick scan of last check-in notes avoids repeating the same discussion
- Update progress in the same pass: Switch to Update Progress on each KR so numbers and narrative stay in sync
