Quick Start Guide

This guide walks you through setting up OKRnest from scratch: creating a team, inviting members, and publishing your first OKRs.

Step 1: Create your first team

When you log in to a new organization with no teams, the home page shows an onboarding prompt to create your first team.

You can also create a team at any time from the Teams page by clicking Create Team. When creating a team you'll set:

  • Team name: A clear name for the group (e.g. "Product", "Engineering")
  • Parent team: Optional. Select a parent if this team sits under a larger group
  • Cycle length: How long each OKR cycle lasts (e.g. Quarterly, Monthly)
  • Update cadence: How often team members should update their key results (e.g. every 7 days)
  • Members: Select people from your organization to add to the team

Step 2: Invite team members

If your colleagues haven't joined the organization yet, admins and owners can invite them. You can invite users from the team creation form or from Settings → Users → Invite New Users.

Enter one or more email addresses, choose a role (User or Admin), and optionally assign them to teams. Each person receives an email invitation with a link to join.

Step 3: Create your OKRs

Navigate to your team from the sidebar and open the Create tab.

  1. Select a cycle period using the period selector in the header (e.g. "Q2 2026")
  2. Click Add Objective and type a qualitative goal
  3. Press Enter or click + Add key result to add measurable outcomes beneath it
  4. For each key result, set the type (Metric, Percent, or Currency), the from → to target values, and assign an owner

Repeat for each objective you want to pursue this cycle. Most teams aim for 3–5 objectives with 2–5 key results each.

Step 4: Save or publish

When your OKRs are ready:

  • Save as draft: Keeps the cycle in draft status so you can continue editing. Draft OKRs are not visible to the wider team.
  • Publish: Sets the cycle to active. Team members can now see the OKRs and start updating progress.

You can always come back to the Create tab to add or edit objectives and key results, even after publishing.

Step 5: Track progress

Once your cycle is active, team members update their key results regularly by navigating to the Update tab or using the Update OKR progress shortcut on the home page.

The Status tab provides an overview of how the team's OKRs are progressing, and Check-ins let the team reflect on progress together at regular intervals.
