Check-in Cadence

The check-in cadence (also called update cadence) controls how often your team is expected to update progress on key results. Choosing the right cadence helps you stay on track without creating unnecessary overhead.

Available options

Weekly (every 7 days)

Best for fast-moving teams or short cycles. Weekly updates keep progress visible and make it easy to catch problems early. This is the most common cadence and works well for most teams.

  • Key result owners are reminded to update every 7 days
  • Check-in meetings naturally follow a weekly rhythm
  • Ideal for quarterly cycles where you want 12–13 data points per cycle

Bi-weekly (every 14 days)

A good middle ground for teams that find weekly updates too frequent. Bi-weekly cadence gives enough time for meaningful progress between updates while still keeping the team aligned.

  • Key result owners are reminded to update every 14 days
  • Works well for teams with longer-running initiatives
  • Ideal for quarterly cycles where 6–7 data points are enough

Monthly (every 30 days)

Best suited for annual or semi-annual cycles, or for teams where key results change slowly. Monthly updates reduce overhead but require more discipline to stay engaged between check-ins.

  • Key result owners are reminded to update every 30 days
  • Risk of losing momentum between updates — pair with informal stand-ups if needed
  • Ideal for annual cycles or strategic-level OKRs

Custom

Set any number of days that fits your team's workflow. For example, every 10 days or every 21 days. Use custom cadence when standard options don't match your meeting schedule or cycle length.

How cadence affects your workflow

  • Reminder tags: Each key result card shows a reminder tag based on the cadence (e.g. "Update in 3 days", "Update today", or "Past due")
  • Progress charts: Update history on key results is grouped by cadence period, making it easy to see whether the team is updating on schedule
  • Recommended actions: The home page highlights key results that are due or overdue for an update based on the team's cadence

Tips for choosing a cadence

  • Match your meeting rhythm: If your team meets weekly, use a weekly cadence so updates are ready before each meeting
  • Consider your cycle length: Shorter cycles (monthly or quarterly) benefit from more frequent updates; longer cycles can use a slower cadence
  • Start weekly, adjust later: If you're unsure, start with weekly updates. You can always change the cadence in your team settings
